SEA Electric set for Groundbreaking Work Truck Week
Global e-Mobility leader SEA Electric is fueling the drive to a zero-emissions future, with the company’s showcase at Work Truck Week 2023 set to feature major OEM partnership agreement announcements along with exciting development milestones in the creation of the company’s SEA SV6 EV step van solution.
Originally announced at Work Truck Week 2022, the prototype SEA SV6 EV chassis will be displayed at the 2023 event, which is scheduled for March 7-10 in Indianapolis, IN, with the platform having undergone successful power unit testing in February this year.
The next steps for the vehicle will be to have its body installed immediately after the show, and undertake further durability testing, which is scheduled for completion by July this year.
The extensive testing program will pit the vehicle against a wide range of scenarios, ensuring that the product is cycle tested to excel in any circumstances.
Production of the platform is set to commence in Q4 2023, with an initial run of 100 units.
“Our product and engineering teams have been working overtime to deliver a real game changer in the final mile delivery space,” said Tony Fairweather, SEA Electric CEO and Founder.
“Through the SEA SV6 EV, suburban transport fleets will have access to proven technology that has been adapted directly for their needs, as supported by a global knowledge bank which has been developed with products now operational on five continents.
“Behind the scenes, we have been busy collaborating with multiple leading users of step van technology, and we know that this is a product that will be perfectly fit for purpose, providing operators with many environmental and economical advantages.
With improved and lower center of gravity, the SEA SV6 EV offers enhanced chassis strength, and the latest suite of Bosch safety features.
Inside the cabin, drivers will enjoy the new digital instrument cluster, plus enhanced ergonomics from a next generation steering wheel.
Work Truck Week 2023, comes after numerous other recent wins for the brand globally.
Central to the brand’s success is SEA Electric’s proprietary SEA-Drive® power-system, which provides leading all-electric range, driving performance, and environmental credentials, with zero local emissions of carbon dioxide, methane or nitrous oxide.
Thanks to its medium‐voltage architecture and electronic thermal management, SEA Electric’s solution is light, cost‐effective and efficient, with the system tested in the field across seven countries with over 2.5 million miles of real-world use registered to date.
“Our early entry into the commercial electrification field is now paying dividends, with our mature technology now finding marketplace success in the truck, bus and light commercial vehicle segments,” said Tony Fairweather, SEA Electric CEO and Founder.
“Work Truck Week is going to be the line in the sand where the industry truly takes notice of SEA Electric, and the fantastic work our team have completed in developing our product offering and industry relationships.
“We have been rapidly growing our dealer network across the USA and expanding our service and support offering in step with the uptake of our products.
“The bus market also continues to be an important focus for SEA Electric, with our involvement expanding beyond the already announced partnership with Midwest Transit Equipment to deliver 10,000 all-electric school buses across America.”
Marketplace growth in North America is mirrored by expansion worldwide.
In Australia, where the company was founded, SEA Electric has been producing the world’s first true range of all electric trucks since 2021, with the offering available through a nationwide network of dealers.
In January this year, the business signed a Memorandum of Understanding with MEVCO, a leading systems integrator focused exclusively on electric light commercial vehicles within the mining industry, for the supply of 8,500 SEA Drive® powered HiLux and LandCruiser models over the next five years.
The deal has a total value of over US700 million dollars.
Amongst a raft of important deliveries in that country, in 2022, SEA Electric produced a first-in-market all-electric aviation refueller, which now services the busy Brisbane International Airport, uplifting Jet-A1.
The refueller can carry over 4,000 gallons of aviation fuel, with all onboard pumps and functions fully electrified, with the management of the systems provided by the integrated SEA-Drive® power-system.
This system has also been adapted to electrify a wide range of additional vehicle ancillary functions, such as the hydraulic systems found on refuse vehicles, elevated work platforms, tippers and tilt trays, as well as the cooling units found in refrigerated delivery trucks.
In addition to SEA Electric’s booth at Work Truck Week, and participation in the Ride and Drive activity with a SEA M5 EV, the company will also be represented at the Green Truck Summit.
Work Truck Week runs from March 7-10 at the Indiana Convention Center, Indianapolis, IN, with SEA Electric’s showcase located in booth #621.
